Fairy Tales

(My dad sent me this one!! Does he know me or what!?!)

Once upon a time
~~~~~~~~
in a land far away,
~~~~~~~~
a beautiful, independent,self-assured princess
~~~~~~~~
happened upon a frog as she sat
contemplating ecological issues on the shores of an unpolluted pond
in a verdant meadow near her castle.
~~~~~~~~
The frog hopped into the princess' lap
and said: " Elegant Lady,I was once a handsome prince,until an evil witch cast a spell upon me.
~~~~~~~~
One kiss from you, however,and I will turn back
into the dapper, young prince that I am
~~~~~~~~
and then, my sweet, we can marry
~~~~~~~~
and set up housekeeping in your castle
~~~~~~~~
with my mother,
~~~~~~~~
where you can prepare my meals,
~~~~~~~~
clean my clothes, bear my children,
~~~~~~~~
and forever feel grateful and happy doing so. "
~~~~~~~~
That night,
~~~~~~~~
as the princess dined sumptuously
~~~~~~~~
on lightly sautéed frog legs
~~~~~~~~
seasoned in a white wine
~~~~~~~
and onion cream sauce,
~~~~~~~~
she chuckled and thought to herself:
~~~~~~~~
I don't freakin think so!!

Day by Day

Thank you for all the love, strength and thoughts that you all have sent me and my family. I appreciate it more than you could know. Even though I haven't been posting or commenting much, I come by to see everyone and I read the wonderful and encouraging words that you all have written. Today is going to be a long one and I'm glad that you all are here.

I've tried to get back into routines of sorts. I've been working at the other house, making jewelry for presents, wrapping all the presents for my friends and family and getting ready for holiday festivities. To say that I'm burning the candle at both ends would be an understatement. I fell asleep last night with the light on. I remember thinking that I needed to turn it off and then my alarm was blaring at me. I guess I'm more tired that I thought!

Here's a picture of Baby Pinky looking super cool, just for kicks. The wristlets were her own doing and puh-leeze, pay no attention to all the random crap in my kitchen. It's been coat, present and painting central for a few weeks, now. The fridge, well it always looks like that! What?? I'm a Momma through and through, so my fridge has to be covered in the latest and greatest art by my daughter! :)

Well, I have to get dressed and get to work. Hubby is off work for the holiday so he has been so wonderful to take Baby to school for me. He knows I'm slow in the morning. My love to you all. ~Pinky!

And, suddenly, you are gone...

My Great Aunt Anne passed away tonight. My heart feels as though it has been torn in half. Although, I know she is finally at peace. I know she is in a better place. I know she is no longer suffering. Most of all, I know that she lived a full life and she loved me deeply. She enriched my life and I am blessed to have held her, loved her, learned from her and be loved by her for all my life. I will miss you more than I can ever express but you have forever touched my life. I love you Aunt Anne, I love you...

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas!!

We have presents under the tree, lights outside and some of the stockings are already filled. Then why do I feel so melancholy? Is it because the holidays always seem to pull me in a million different directions? That could be it. I'm not sure, but I've had to work real hard to get into the spirit this year. Some of it could be that I've been working on House #2 so much the past week. This week is just as packed with house work. In fact, all the work that we did on Friday has to be scraped off tomorrow. In case you were wondering, no I am NOT happy about that. Apparently all the trim was painted with oil base. Well, you can't put water base over that and expect it to stay. So, we start again tomorrow. sigh...

I have ideas for jewelry but I feel so tired that I don't want to sit down and try to finish anything. My brain is going too fast and the designs are all cryptic. I think I need a vacation. heh.

Well, I'm going to take the camera tomorrow so you can see the progress. It's coming along, just slowly and we still have a lot to do. Maybe I'll get to move in there by March! HA! Sorry to post such a crappy crap blog today, but I guess I needed to get it out. ~pinky

A Different Kind of Christmas Story

My dad sent me this and asked if I would email it to some of my friends. After I read it, I thought more people that that should be able to read it. Thanks, Diddy.

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.

The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.

A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"

For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.

No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of 'Nam',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.

Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."

"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
your family is waiting and I'll be alright."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all to little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
Then his eyes welled a tear that held no regret,

"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

Merry Christmas to our soldiers everywhere. May your families be with you in spirit and heart and know that I am thankful for all that you do. ~Pinky!

No, I'm not dead

But, goodness, do I feel that way! Well, I've been super busy working on the other house but we do have the BIG room painted! WOO! Now, we just have to start working on the trim around the windows, the doors, the floor and the crown moulding. Heh.

I've been so busy that I haven't had time to make any jewelry!! AT ALL!! ARGH!!! Hopefully I will have time to do some this weekend. I'm going to try to take pictures tomorrow so you can see the progress in the giant room. We're going to stripe one wall and that's going to take some time, but ohhhhh, it's going to look cool when it's done!

Hope that everyone is doing well and know that you all are never far from my thoughts. I'll update soon! Promise!!! HUGS and lots of Holiday Love!! ~ Pinky!

What I've been up to

I know I've been more than absent and this upcoming week doesn't look like I'm going to be slowing down any. I hope that everyone is doing well and having a good time getting into the holiday spirit. We finally got our tree up!! We were debating on a fake one, but there is a problem with that. The house we are in now has normal ceilings, the one we are moving into has 12 foot ceilings. SO, we couldn't buy a huge one to cram into our house now! I got SUPER lucky and found this little pre-lit gem for only 20 bucks!

Cool, huh? Baby Pinky and I wanted new ornaments, but it's not really in the budget. Madd suggested we refurbish old ones and that's just what we did. We spent most of Saturday redoing old ornaments! Look!!

Couple

Little alien couple my daughter made. Funny and cute!

The polka dotted one is a refurbished ornament, too. We made some with glitter, too, but we both really liked the pompom ones. Here is my favorite ornament in the world!

I can't even remember where I got that darling little sheep, but I just adore it!! Oh, in the midst of doing all this, I sat down and made this for Baby Pinky:

Scarf

Yep, I crochet, too. I would show you what all I've done at the other house but it doesn't look like much. We've been puttying, sanding, taping and cleaning. Tomorrow we start painting! I'm already tired just thinking about it. I haven't got to do any beading so I think I'm going to take a day off this week, catch up on blogs and sit down at my bead table. I'm missing it soooo much.

Well, I have to get in the bed. I'm starting bright and early tomorrow and I have a full load. Blech. Hope all is well and take care! ~Pinky!

Quick Stop

Just stopping by to say hey! Staying busy but making some headway. OH! I've got two new pieces that I am working on. One is called "Rain of Fire" and the other is called "Snow Drift". They will be impressive when I'm done. It's rare that I toot my own horn like that, but the designs are intricate, delicate and amazing to me and I'm the one that's doing it.

Okay, I have to go, I should have been out the door an hour ago! HUGS!! ~ Pinky!

12.05.2006

MIA, LOA, WTF

Okay folks, I gotta tell you something. I'm going to be absent a little bit. I'm working on house #2 and still haven't gotten house #1 finished. We have no tree, no decorations and I have not bought one sixteenth of the Christmas presents, I don't have the first card addressed and I still have to make a TON of presents!! So, what I'm saying is that even though I love you guys, I'm not going to make it through the season if I play on my computer every morning for a few hours, like I do now. Yes, it takes me that long to get through all the blogs, my Etsy and everything else. Sad, but true.

I apologize for not commenting back but I just haven't had the time. Madd, I will answer your "6 Strange Things About Me" later on this week. Hope you guys have fun!! And don't worry, I'll come back soon. I just have to get ahead of some of this stuff!!!

HUGS and bunches of love!! ~Pinky!

Good Morning!

I hope that everyone had a good weekend. It was FREEEEEEZING here!! Literally. Thursday it was in the seventies then Friday morning it was 30 degrees. brrrrr! So I have stayed bundled up, but not inside. Cold weather can't keep me indoors! Hubby cooked out on the fire pit while I ran back and forth getting plates, beer, wine (for me) pans, etc. We had an enormous meal of steak, baked potato and french bread! It was divine!! Both of our coats smell like fire grilled steak and man, that's cool.

Didn't do much else. I didn't once sit down at my beading table. I know, it's awfully close to Christmas for me to be slowing down. But don't worry, I've got things to do. It's not often that I have a weekend with just my husband and we actually get to spend it together. Ususally, we're both out and about doing things that a whole weekend will go by with us barely getting to see each other. So staying in and hanging out was what I needed. ~Pinky!

Pinky's Picks ~ 2006!

Well ladies and gentlemen, the year is winding down. We only have 24 days left until Christmas and then this year's pretty much done. A lot has gone on this year politically, religiously and in the varied world of media. But I don't want to get into all of that!! We've had enough of it this year! So, here is the First Annual Pinky's Picks! This is a list of blogs, shops, and other cool things that I have found, tried or bought that I think you might enjoy. Plus, if there is something you want to buy, well there is still time!! Here we go!! (not in any real order, sorry 'bout that!)

1. The Ojon hair treatment kit, available at Sephora! I bought this just to see if it really did what it said it would do. Silky hair, tame flyaways, blah, blah, blah. I have thick crazy hair so I thought I would give it a try. Did it work? Oh man did it ever!! I have since gone back and bought full size versions. Silky hair? check. Tame flyaways? check. Make my hair look like something on a really cool commercial?? oh yes, check. Plus, Sephora gift wraps EVERYTHING! It doesn't matter if it's for you, they wrap it up like a present. Can't beat that.

2. Amber/ Blurr!! This is just some of the pile of jewelry that I have bought from her. I also have some FABULOUS photographs that she took. I know, I make jewelry, but she does things I wouldn't think about! Plus, she is an awesome person, a super talented artist and just a kick ass friend. The link is for one of her Etsy shops, she has 2!! Go check them out and see what amazing wire work she has. Seriously, the girl is magic with some copper.

3. Fine Art and More by Cynthia! I know the picture isn't well, but these are two fabulous little ACEO's that I bought from her. She made these cool mini quilts! Each one is signed on the back and are made super well. Cynthia is a mixed media artist and she has a wonderful talent with fabric, paint, clay and I think whatever else you can think of! Check her Etsy shop, her daughter's birthday is coming up so go buy something!! Great person and another fabulous artist!

4. Steven Novak, blog author of My brain hates me, but I hate it even more. Aside from making me laugh so hard that I often choke with tears, Steven is just cool. Self-proclaimed nerd, he makes a mockery of himself, the people around him and the general life crap that happens. But it's so much funnier the way he puts it. Granted he swears worse than a Sailor in an International Swearing Competition, but OMG! He's funny. He also has two books out, one which is a really good children's book that deals with depression, lonliness and loss. Very cool. Check him out, but please, trust me on this one, don't be eating or drinking when you go there. Your computer won't like it.

5. Deep Cleansing Oil and Virgin Olive Oil by DHC Skin Care. Okay, I know what you are thinking, oil? for my face? are you nuts?? Yeah, I am, but that's not the point here. This stuff WORKS! If you wear makeup, you know what a pain it is to get it off. Not with the cleansing oil! It rinses completely and totally clean!! I wouldn't have thought it either. Great for really deep cleaning without stripping your face. The Virgin Olice Oil is a intense moisturizer. I don't use it every day, but this time of year nothing beats it. Leaves my skin silky and it has NEVER made me break out. I have sensitive skin, too! Plus, DHC catalogs always have samples in them and you get to pick samples when you order.

6. Here are some ornaments that I just got from Mrs. Kwitty, aka Karen! She does amazing work and is a joy to work with. Her ornaments have been flying out as soon as she can make them. Vintage fabrics, the most outstanding hand stitching I have ever seen and just cool stuff. Look at these stitches: Amazing, huh? Go check her out, buy some really good stuff and meet another wonderful artist!

7. Sugar Mama Body Scrubby by Lushbox. THE BEST SUGAR SCRUB IN THE WORLD! I am not kidding. I bought this and it is divine. 100 % vegan, Lushbox makes amaizng body smell good stuff. This scrubby exfoliates with a base of essential oils that leave your skin feeling like silk. Rinses clean and smells oh, so sexy. You can get it in a bunch of different flavors and I promise you, you will wonder why you ever spent money on another body scrub before.

8. Heather at Bad Kitty Art Studio. I have nearly a dozen paintings and mixed medias from this artist. Internationally know, Heather makes emotions come to life on a canvas. Don't worry if you can't afford one immediately, she will work with you!! She believes that everyone should have great art if they want it and she works to make sure you can. Also, she has prints, magnets, shirts all kinds of cool stuff. Go look!!

9. Naked and Angry!! OH! What a treat this place is! They offer wallpaper and ties all from Indie designers! You can even submit your own design and people get to vote for it. They take the 5 most popular and turn them into awesome products. Great shipping and amazing outlet for some very talented designers. This is the wall paper I ordered from them for my kitchen. It's really thick and very well made. Highly reccommended!!

10. Pretty Fakes. This is a blog of sorts run by Gorjus and Professor Fury. Granted, Gorjus is my big brother, but that's not why I love this site. It's full of politics, life lessons, drunkery, law, stories, art, comics and music, music, music. There is a healthy smattering of art and law crammed together with large doses of comic book insight. Two great guys that really know how to make you laugh, cry, think and point at someone else while giggling saying "I'm glad that's not me!!" Plus you will get some of the best music and book reviews around. They've been visited by a famous author or two! WOO!

So, there you have it folks! This is Pinky's Picks for 2006. Check out the shops, read the blogs and enjoy the ride. All of these have been tested by me, so I will swear to the goodness of them. Oh, one more thing:

My newest piece to be in my shop later today! C'mon, you didn't really think I would tell you about all this stuff and not jam myself in there somewhere? Tsk, tsk, tsk. Anyway! Its all hand made, hand linked sterling silver and Swavorski fire crystals. Feel free to "ooooooh" at that. Hope you all had a good trip through the picks! My love and well wishes ~ Pinky!
